We’ve seen a Sparrowhawk flying around the fields at the back of us for quite a while now… usually being mobbed by the Swallows. Now that the Swallows have all migrated back I’ve been hoping that the sprawk would become a regular visitor to the garden.
I have my trail camera set up beside the bird feeder pole, focused towards the hydrangae bush as we have a couple of rats who like to hang around there π
So I was thrilled when I saw that it’s also captured this gorgeous male Sparrowhawk… (click the image to enlarge)
Luckily he’s been visiting quite often this past week, hoping to catch one of the rats…
I’ve now set my trail camera to video as well as photo so hopefully it will only be a matter of time before I catch him feeding…
…fingers crossed π
They are beautiful birds aren’t they and how fantastic to capture it on camera like that!
I was thrilled Pam! I love all birds of prey & feel priveleged that it’s chosen my garden to visit (although I’m sure the other birds aren’t that happy about it!)
I spotted two rats in my backyard recently so an efficient bird of prey would be a very welcome guest!
I would guess the Sparrowhawk is more interested in your bird feeders. But it would be great if it liked rats too.
