Today is 1 year since my Dad passed away… and I’d like to share this post as a thanks to him – I hope you don’t mind.

You see, I work from home running my own business, and before his death I would spend every weekend in front of the laptop planning my social media schedules, my newsletter campaigns, my blog posts… it was never ending & I realise now that I never switched off.

Nowadays it’s so hard to switch off… the internet has made the world a smaller place and our smartphones have made it harder to ignore our emails & notifications.

The following few months after Dad died all I wanted to do was just sit outside in the peace & quiet, watching the birds & wildlife around me. That’s when I realised that I needed to take a step back and get back to doing the thing I used to really enjoy… watching, photographing and blogging about my garden birds.

Life really is short, and it’s a shame to spend it doing things we’d rather not be doing. I also think it’s a shame not to notice the little things in nature that are actually a really big deal. So please, switch off your phones, get out there and spend time in nature. You’ll feel so much better for it – physically and mentally, I promise!

So this post is to say thanks Dad for helping me get back to what I enjoy doing.

And if you’re wondering what the picture of the Green Woodpecker* has to do with all this… about 10 years ago my Dad got really excited that there was a “Parrot” in the back garden (he wasn’t into birds!), no prizes for guessing what it was πŸ™‚
