Do you have a quiet spot? The place where you go just to sit & ponder? I have 2 places so I thought I’d share them 🙂
They are both in my backyard where I’m surrounded by nature…
The first one is in my favourite chair which sits between pots of Nemesia, Senetti and Lobelia. My senses are hit with the lovely scent of vanilla and the buzzing sound of bees doing their thing.
The chair is quite low so when you sit in it you feel really sheltered against the wall and in among the flowers. I’m still in view of the back door in to the kitchen & can see all the comings & goings but this is the place to just chill with a glass of vino on a summers evening.
It’s also a lovely suntrap (if the sun decides to come out) – we’ve put a bed down against the wall for our dog who is a complete sun-worshipper & I totally understand why Xena loves lying there so much – it’s a proper little hotspot 🙂
My second spot is the other side of the garden. It’s away from the back door and once seated it’s slightly hidden. It’s where the steps lead down to the old outbuilding. On the left side of me is the small lawn that we grew for Xena to play on…
On the right side is a small area of wasteland that we’ve done nothing with – it’s overgrown with nettles and we have lots of Rosebay Willowherb growing, which I love.
I’m always looking out for the caterpillars of the Elephant Hawk moth as apparently it settles on the Rosebay Willowherb – so if you have some and you see a caterpillar resembling an elephant’s trunk, you’ll know what it is!
There’s also lots of tiny weeds, I suppose not many people would pay much attention to them, but their flowers are so tiny and delicate – I have no idea what they are but I love them!
So this is where I go if I want to just sit on the steps & think & watch, usually with my camera…
I feel really grateful that I have somewhere I can go to sit in peace & quiet and I think it’s important for everyone to have their own little haven that they can go to escape the bustle of life and just be in nature.
I’d love to know where your favourite place is, let me know in the comments 🙂
Wonderful garden, and the birds too.
Two beautiful areas to relax and watch wildlife. Your garden looks lovely. In my garden I either sit by the pond or wander up to the wildflower and wooded area.
Thanks Bob
Thanks Caroline, I love it! Your quiet places sound bliss… I’d love a pond in ours (maybe that will be my next project)
This is lovely, I think you have the right idea with the wasteland 🙂 I love to sit and watch my garden too, especially early morning when everyone else is still in bed!
Thanks Pam. I miss out on the early mornings really as I’m not a morning person! But I love to sit out after 9pm watching the fields out back to see if I can spot anything… it’s so peaceful too 🙂
Nice selection of birds. I hope that you continue to pay attention. And I admire your appreciation of the little flowers on the “weeds.” The word “weed” has such a pejorative connotation, yet it is simply called a weed because we have decided that it is.
Thanks David – I actually prefer to call weeds “wild flowers” as that’s what they are… flowers growing wild. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
